Khan’s Supa IGA Nowra Helps the Shoalhaven City Lions Reach Their Fundraising Target

Khan’s Supa IGA in Nowra is pleased to have helped assist the Shoalhaven City Lions Linear Accelerator Appeal reach its fundraising target, after donating a cheque of $5,387 from its Community Chest funds.

The local beneficiary, the Shoalhaven City Lions Linear Accelerator Appeal, was chosen by Customer Service Manager, Jodie Bainbrigge. It is a joint project between Shoalhaven City Council and the Shoalhaven Lions Clubs to raise money for technologies which provide radiology and related cancer treatments to the people of the Shoalhaven region.

The linear accelerator is a much needed medical service for the local community, as patients requiring cancer treatment currently have to travel to Wollongong and Sydney for treatment.

The cheque was handed over to the appeal at the IGA store on March 11 during an afternoon tea, with attendance from representatives from the Lions Club, as well as the local Mayor, Mr Paul Green, who said he was pleased to see local businesses supporting the appeal and welcomed our donation with much enthusiasm.

Commenting on the donation, Store Manager Beryl Woskett said, “This is the first time we have donated to this beneficiary, and we are very pleased to be able help such a worthwhile cause for our local area.

“The sad reality is that many people in the area have to travel for cancer detection and treatment, and this causes a lot of distress on relatives and friends. Given that exposure to cancer is quite high in Australia, we really wanted to do as much as we could to help with the fundraising towards this much needed equipment for our local area,” she added.

The next goal for Khan’s Supa IGA Nowra is to raise money for the accommodation to go with the Cancer Treatment Centre, which the store will be supporting.
